Borrell condemns Russia’s attack on Red Cross convoy in Donetsk region

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has reacted to the Russian attack on the International Committee of the Red Cross truck in the Donetsk region. Borrell posted his comments on Twitter.

The EU’s top diplomat said that he “condemns in the strongest possible terms” the Russian shelling of an ICRC truck transporting humanitarian aid in the Donetsk region.

Under no circumstances can we target humanitarian workers. He added, “We will hold Russia accountable for all violations of international humanitarian law.”

According to reports, on the morning of September 12, Russian artillery shelled the village of Viroliubivka in the Kostiantynivka community in the Donetsk region.

In this Russian attack, the International Committee of the Red Cross lost three employees, and two more were wounded.

The ICRC President, Mirjana Spoljaric, strongly condemned the attack and stated that the organization’s members were responsible for distributing firewood and fuel briquettes to vulnerable households in Viroliubivka.
