Russian Wagner PMC inflames conflict in Sudan

The Rapid Support Forces of Sudan have been receiving missiles from the Russian mercenary group Wagner to aid in their conflict with the national army.

According to the sources, Sudan’s military dictator and head of its armed forces, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, is engaged in a power struggle with the RSF paramilitary soldiers under the leadership of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.

The formidable Russian mercenary organization has been regularly accused of committing crimes and has played a prominent and visible part in Moscow’s military operations abroad, specifically in Ukraine. It has supported Moscow’s expanding influence and resource appropriation in Africa.

Before talks went down and some of the worst violence the nation had seen in decades broke out, Dagalo and Burhan were jockeying for dominance in talks over restoring civilian rule in Sudan.

According to satellite pictures and the Dutch open-source specialist Gerjon, the Ilyushin-76 transport aircraft’s increased activity began two days before the conflict in Sudan broke out on Saturday and persisted at least until Wednesday.

According to EU relations chief Josep Borrell, French and Spanish military forces troops over the weekend successfully captured “more than 1,000” EU citizens out of Sudan, including the majority of the 20 or so diplomats at the EU mission.

Planes from the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Sweden have also been detaining EU citizens from underdeveloped nations in the region, such as Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, and Ireland. The efforts were applauded by European foreign ministers reuniting in Luxembourg the same day.

On Sunday, there were 11 flights via EU countries, and on Monday, there were 20, with more than 400 EU citizens remaining on the ground, according to Borrell.

After a mostly sloppy Western withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, he declared, “It’s a fantastic success, an abundance enhanced than I had expected.”

The Western exodus started as US and British special forces oversaw significant operations to evacuate several Americans and Britons this weekend.

To pick up personnel, US military helicopters flew from the neighboring country of Djibouti. To attract more people in the future, the UK operation complex 1,200 soldiers and Britain sent two naval vessels to Port Sudan.

Russia intends to construct a Red Sea naval outpost in Port Sudan and relies on illegal gold from Sudan to help finance its conflict in Ukraine.
