The Netherlands to allocate 400 million euros for drones production for Ukraine

The Netherlands will allocate 400 million euros to start developing and producing drones together with Ukraine. Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans made this statement during a visit to Kharkiv, according to NOS.

The Dutch Defense Minister claims that Ukraine and other nations will manufacture the remaining drones, with the Netherlands developing half of them.

The minister reminded us that the Netherlands played a “pioneering role” in supplying Ukraine with F-16 aircraft and Patriot systems.

“Now we are continuing this with modern drones,” Brekelmans said.

He stated that there are several uses for these drones by the Ukrainian Armed Forces: reconnaissance, defense, and attack.

“Especially in the air, but also on land and at sea,” said the Dutch Defense Minister.

Ruben Brekelmans added that drones are currently in high demand because they are important for Ukraine’s air defense and are also valuable offensively.

“If the developed drones prove to be successful, additional funds will be allocated to expand production,” Brekelman emphasized.

Also, the Dutch Minister of Defense Ruben Brekelmans officially confirmed that Ukraine has received the first F-16 fighter jets, which the Netherlands has pledged to provide.

He noted that the transfer of modern fighter jets to Ukraine was extremely necessary, given the situation with Russian air strikes on Ukrainian cities.

Brekelmans wrote, “For the first time, I can officially announce the delivery of the first Dutch F-16 fighters to Ukraine.”

He stated that Ukraine would receive the remaining 24 promised fighters in the upcoming months.

On August 4, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the first F-16s were already in Ukraine and showed them off at a secret airport.

According to unofficial reports, the first batch of F-16s received by Ukraine included six planes from the Netherlands and several from Denmark.

Belgium and Norway also pledged to provide F-16s to Ukraine.
