Biden meets with the President of Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an unannounced trip to the United States, his first visit abroad since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On December 21, he addressed the US Congress and met with US leader Joe Biden, who promised new aid to Ukraine.

The trip of the President of Ukraine to Washington

CNN calls Zelenskiy’s visit to the US “historic” and “full of symbolism,” noting details such as Biden’s yellow and blue tie.

“However, the essence of the trip was far from just symbols.

Biden would not have invited Zelenskyy to Washington – and exposed him to a risky trip outside Ukraine for the first time since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – if he did not believe that it was a one-on-one meeting, not telephone talks, that would bring some actual result,” the journalists of the TV channel are sure.

How Biden hosted the President of Ukraine in the White House

Zelenskyy’s reception at the White House, joint press conference with Biden, and speech in Congress were held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

During a personal meeting, Zelenskyy presented Biden with a combat award – a medal of the HIMARS commander from Bakhmut, where he was the day before. Zelenskyy presented the flag with signatures of the Ukrainian military, defending the hottest spot of the war directly from the battlefield as a sign of gratitude for the Western partners who supported them with weapons.

Instead, for the first time in 10 months of bloody war with Russia, Ukraine will receive Patriot missile defense systems in a new military aid package worth $1.8 billion.

So far, it is only about one battery, but as Biden said: “We’re working on it.
