70% of European citizens believe that their countries will benefit from EU membership. Eurobarometer conducted a survey after the June elections to the European Parliament, yielding these results.
The EU citizens are optimistic about the future of the EU (65%), and they continue to hold a positive impression of the EU and the European Parliament. This represents an increase of 4 points compared to the survey conducted at the beginning of the year.
Overall, European respondents consider EU membership beneficial for four main reasons: increased cooperation between Member States (36%), protecting peace and strengthening security (32%), the EU’s contribution to economic growth (28%), and the creation of new job opportunities (24%).
The highest level of satisfaction with their country’s membership in the EU was recorded in Portugal, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Ireland, Poland, the Baltic States, Croatia, and Hungary, despite the constant complaints about the EU from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
The largest number of “Eurosceptics” has been registered in France and Austria, as the far-right is on the rise in both countries, which was confirmed by the 2024 elections.
The rate of positive perception of the European Parliament was the highest in the survey—42%.
