EU approved sanctions against Iran over drones supply to Russia

The European Union has approved sanctions against Iran over the supply  of the Shahed kamikaze drones to Russia. Discussions between the EU states on this decision lasted only 3 days.

Restrictions are applied against organizations that supply Iranian drones. Sanctions come into force today, October 20

The day before, ambassadors of the EU member states approved sanctions against Iran for its involvement in the war. The media claimed that the restrictions were approved against three individuals and a drone manufacturer. Probably, it was about the company Shahed Aviation Industries, as it is responsible for the design and development of the Iranian UAV.

This week, Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi about the supply of drones. The politician warned that Poland intends to actively oppose any arms purchases by Russia. In addition, the United States, France and the United Kingdom plan to raise the issue of the supply of drones.

Iran supply Russia with kamikaze drones

Iran sends Russia combat kamikaze drones with which it attacks Ukrainian cities. The Russian invaders are trying to hide the origin of the drones, marking them “Geran”.

The first case of shooting down an Iranian kamikaze drone in Ukraine was recorded on September 13 in Kupyansk. The Ukrainian Air Forces reported that as of October 19, 223 Shahed-136s had already been shot down.
