EU imposes new sanctions against Iran over drone supply to Russia

EU foreign ministers approved new sanctions against Iran. This is a penalty for human rights violations and armed support to Russia.

This was stated by the President of the European Parliament, Josep Borrell, on December 12, Reuters reported.

The EU approved a solid package of sanctions against Iran for human rights violations and the supply of drones to Russia.

More Iranian individuals and companies hit by sanctions

The EU foreign ministers added twenty individuals and one entity to the bloc’s sanctions list over human rights abuses. At the same time, four more individuals and many entities were added to the sanctions list over the war drone supply to Russia.

Josep Borrell said the EU would take all possible measures to support young women and peaceful protesters in Iran.

He also said that the European Union countries agreed on a package of sanctions against Iran because of the supply of weapons to Russia, particularly combat drones.

Mr. Borrell added that the EU discussed the 9th package against Russia but has not yet agreed, so “we need to continue working.”

Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, noted that sanctions against Iran for supplying drones to Russia are “just the beginning.”

The Russians could get new Iranian drones

After several weeks of break, Russians continue to attack Ukraine with Iranian kamikaze drones. In particular, drones on the night of December 10 tried to hit the South of Ukraine. The Institute for the Study of War suggests that the Kremlin may have accumulated drones or received a new batch of drones.

Strategic Communications Coordinator for the US National Security Council at the White House, John Kirby, said Iran is considering creating a joint drone production line in Russia.

The Institute for the Study of War believes Iran may have modified kamikaze drones for more effective use in winter.
