Former Reform UK leader in Wales Nathan Gill has admitted to receiving bribes from former Ukrainian MP Oleg Voloshyn in exchange for pro-Russian statements while serving as a member of the European Parliament.
According to Politico, on Friday, Nathan Gill pleaded guilty to eight counts of corruption committed between December 2018 and July 2019 and, according to his lawyer, could face a prison sentence.
Gill was a member of the European Parliament from July 2014 to January 2020, representing the far-right UKIP party and later the Brexit Party, before the United Kingdom left the European Union.
Who Is Oleg Voloshyn?
Oleg Voloshin, sanctioned by both the United States and the European Union, is notorious for advancing Russia’s geopolitical agenda.
In 2023, Ukraine’s parliament stripped him of his mandate due to his ties to the Kremlin. His financial links to Gill serve as another example of Russia’s attempts to manipulate European decision-making.
Gill admitted to receiving money for pro-Russian statements from Oleg Voloshyn, a former Ukrainian MP from the pro-Russian OPZZ party (founded by former MPs from the party of fugitive president Yanukovych).
In one of his statements in the European Parliament, as an MEP, Gill once claimed that “Ukraine is a buffer zone” and that “Putin is not the biggest threat to humanity.” [source]

Gill departed from Reform UK, the Brexit Party’s successor, in May 2021 following an unsuccessful attempt to secure an election to the Welsh Parliament.
Prosecutor Mark Heywood told the court that WhatsApp correspondence between Gill and Voloshyn contained agreements under which the then MEP was to raise specific questions in parliament, contact senior European Commission officials, make statements, and organize events that were in the Kremlin’s interests.
According to the indictment, Gill also organized the participation of MEPs in TV shows on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, which was closed in 2021 as part of sanctions against its owner, pro-Russian businessman Taras Kozak.
Welsh Labour called on Nigel Farage, Reform UK’s current leader, to clarify whether he knew of Gill’s activities. Reform UK dismissed the accusations as political mudslinging, but the case continues to cast a shadow on the party’s credibility.
