Fourth question on Poland’s referendum handles threats from Belarus and Russia

The Polish government have published the fourth question for the referendum scheduled to be held in Poland on October 15, simultaneously with the parliamentary elections.

It was announced in a short video message on Twitter by Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.

According to Blaszczak, the fourth question of the referendum will deal with the wall on the border with Belarus.

“Do you support the elimination of the barrier on Poland’s border with Belarus? You will decide whether our border will continue to be protected and safe,” he said.

The minister emphasised that Poland “may become Putin’s next target” and the country’s security is under a real threat.

“That is why we are consistently strengthening the Polish army and building a barrier on the border with Belarus and Russia,” he added.

The referendum, which will take place on October 15, the day of the parliamentary elections, was initially supposed to address the forced resettlement of migrants.

However, the ruling right party, Law and Justice, intends to ask not one but three or four questions to strengthen the message further.

The first question of the referendum will be: “Do you support the sale of state-owned enterprises?”

The second referendum question deals with the retirement age: “Do you support raising the retirement age, which is currently 60 for women and 65 for men?”

The third question, proposed by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, would be: “Do you support the acceptance of thousands of illegal immigrants from the Middle East and Africa under the forced resettlement mechanism imposed by the European bureaucracy?”

And the Defence Minister voiced the last question – it concerns the security of the state and the threat from Russia and Belarus.
