G7 discuss more help for Ukraine after Russian strikes on energy infrastructure

Following recent Russian strikes on energy infrastructure that have resulted in extensive power outages, foreign ministers from the G7 group is meeting on November 3 in Germany to explore the best way to consolidate additional support for Ukraine.

The two-day conference between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his G7 counterparts in the western German city of Münster is anticipated to be dominated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, though China’s increasingly aggressive presence in the globe and unrest in Iran will also be a high priority, Reuters reported.

A senior State Department official stated, “This G7 ministerial is, for us, coming at a critical time,” stressing that the group “has been a vital coordinating tool” for policy approaches on the most urgent concerns.

During a visit to Kyiv, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson stated that the EU and its allies were looking at measures to expand aid to Ukraine’s energy industry.

For Ukraine to restore damage to its energy infrastructure, she said, specialized tools and equipment are required. Urging the deployment of energy equipment to Ukraine should be a top priority for international corporations.
