Germany and 10 more nations launched “electronic warfare coalition” for Ukraine

Germany has announced the creation of a new coalition to support Ukraine’s defense capabilities within the “Ramstein” format. The German Ministry of Defense has stated this in a press release.

As noted in the department, a new phenomenon was the creation of another coalition of forces and means—the “electronic warfare coalition”. It complements the existing eight coalitions of forces and means.

It was created by Germany and 10 more allies to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the following areas:

  • ensuring communications,
  • reconnaissance and disruption of enemy communications,
  • protection against drones,
  • the effectiveness of its weapons systems.

The knowledge gained will also be taken into account in the future development of the Bundeswehr’s capabilities.

“Electronic warfare means are necessary for the effective protection of the lives, infrastructure, and equipment of soldiers, as well as the civilian population. Control over the electromagnetic spectrum is essential for effective combat in modern warfare. This is especially true for the use of drones and protection against them,” the German Ministry of Defense noted.

The meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format takes place in Brussels on April 11 under the chairmanship of Great Britain and Germany.

The previous meeting—the first after the change of the US administration—was also held in Brussels on February 12 and was chaired by Great Britain.

At that Ramstein, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the return of Ukraine’s borders to those that existed before 2014 was not a realistic goal and stated that the US does not consider Ukraine’s membership in NATO to be a possible outcome of a peaceful resolution of the war.

Previous Ramstein meetings under the Joe Biden administration were held under the chairmanship of the United States.
