German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which will include four IRIS-T air defense systems.
Pistorius said this on the sidelines of a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense in the Ramstein format in Brussels, as quoted by n-tv.
According to the German minister, the package will also include 15 Leopard 1 battle tanks, reconnaissance drones, and an additional 100,000 artillery rounds.
Pistorius also spoke about the prospects of acquiring new IRIS-T systems in the coming years, as well as the supply of 1,100 additional ground surveillance radars.
The meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense in the Ramstein format is taking place in Brussels on April 11 under the chairmanship of the United Kingdom and Germany.
The previous meeting, the first after the change of the US administration, was also held in Brussels on February 12 and was chaired by the UK.
At that meeting, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that the return of Ukraine’s borders to pre-2014 levels was not a realistic goal and stated that the US did not consider Ukraine’s membership in NATO a possible outcome of a peaceful settlement of the war.
Previous Ramstein meetings under the Joe Biden administration were chaired by the United States.
