Lithuania announces the creation of a demining coalition for Ukraine

Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas has announced the creation of a coalition of demining to help Ukraine.

“The coalition is being formed on the principle of “train and equip”, which is used in the framework of assistance to Ukrainians with military training, which Lithuania provides together with Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and soon – Denmark”, the Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas said.

As Anusauskas explained during the Ramstein meeting, the demining coalition will consolidate and coordinate current and planned assistance to Ukraine in this area. The Lithuanian Defense Minister invited other states to join and provide Ukraine assistance with demining territories.

Members of the demining coalition can provide instructors to train Ukrainian deminers or demining equipment, Anusauskas explained.

The head of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry also informed that NASAMS launchers, which Lithuania purchased for Ukraine, will arrive this fall.

Vilnius’s total contribution to aid Ukraine in July amounted to 24 million euros.
