Meloni-Zelensky phone call: “A just peace for Ukraine.” And Kyiv’s leader thanked Italy for support, “Let’s keep it up”

“The way to peace in Ukraine is the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory and the implementation of our peace formula,” the Kyiv leader reiterated.

Yesterday afternoon, March 29, Prime Minister Georgia Meloni again spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

A conversation the latter himself called “productive” While waiting to speak with Beijing leader Xi Jinping, Zelensky discussed “our bilateral and international initiatives” with Meloni. “The way to peace in Ukraine is the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory and the implementation of our peace formula,” the Kyiv leader added after the confrontation, before expressing gratitude for our country.

“We thank our Italian friends for their support. Let’s keep it up!” he wrote on his own Telegram channel. According to the Palazzo Chigi account, in particular, the two leaders reportedly talked about the need for a “just peace” at the end of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The last time the leaders of Rome and Kyiv had spoken by phone was on Dec. 27, 2022, when the Prime Minister confirmed sending Ukraine an additional 10 million euros in aid. Then last Feb. 21, just days before the first anniversary of the war, Meloni had met face-to-face with Zelensky directly in Kyiv.
