According to the Palazzo Chigi account, in particular, the two leaders reportedly talked about the need for a “just peace” at the end of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The last time the leaders of Rome and Kyiv had spoken by phone was on Dec. 27, 2022, when the Prime Minister confirmed sending Ukraine an additional 10 million euros in aid. Then last Feb. 21, just days before the first anniversary of the war, Meloni had met face-to-face with Zelensky directly in Kyiv.
