Missile found in Polish forest was Russian

According to unnamed sources cited by Polish private media outlets RMF FM, the military item discovered in a forest in Poland in April was a Russian CH-55 missile.

Without providing any additional information regarding its origin, Polish police said in April that a “military object” had been discovered in a forest adjacent to the village of Zamosc in the northern city of Bydgoszcz.

Several hundred kilometers separate the location of the item from Poland’s borders with Belarus, Ukraine, and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

The Polish Air Force Institute of Technology’s first investigations indicate that the item was a Russian Kh-55 missile, according to the private broadcaster RMF FM.

It was impossible to get in touch with the Air Force Institute of Technology or a Polish government spokeswoman right away for comment.

Poland has been on high alert for any potential military spillover from the conflict in neighboring Ukraine, especially after two people were killed close to the border last November by what Warsaw determined to be a misfired Ukrainian air defense missile.
