Poland signs contract with the US to buy Hellfire missiles

Poland has announced the signing of a contract with the United States for the supply of Hellfire-guided anti-tank missiles, which the US Congress has already approved.

Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak announced the news on Twitter.

According to the minister, the missiles will be used to arm helicopters of the country’s armed forces.

“Today, we signed a contract for the supply of Hellfire missiles. They will be used to arm AW149 support helicopters and later AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters,” Blashchak said.

AGM-114 Hellfire is a US air-to-ground guided anti-tank missile

The AGM-114 Hellfire is a US air-to-ground guided anti-tank missile launched from a closed position without direct visual contact with the target.

The Hellfire missile is guided to the target by a laser beam or other systems. It can be used from helicopters (AH-64 Apache), aeroplanes, unmanned aerial vehicles (Northrop Grumman MQ-8), and ground vehicles (HMMWV).

In April, the US Congress approved the sale of eight hundred Hellfire missiles to Poland to arm Apache helicopters. On May 5, it became known that Poland received the first eight Apache attack helicopters.

On May 15, Mariusz Blaszczak announced the arrival of the first HIMARS systems at the military airport in Warsaw’s Okenze Airport. On May 25, two more missile systems arrived in the country.
