The far-right pro-Russian Romanian politician Calin Georgescu called Ukraine a fictional state and said that its division between neighboring states is inevitable. He said this during an interview with the journalist Ion Cristoiu.
Speaking about “a new division of the world dictated from the White House,” Georgescu dreamed about a partition of Ukrainian territories after the peace and Romania’s benefits.
“The world is changing. Borders will change. Moreover, if the borders change, where will we be? We have Northern Bukovyna, which is of interest. We have Bujak; we have Northern Maramures, right? What was the name of the former region, Transcarpathia? There are also Hungarians… Lviv, which will remain with the Poles, and Malorossia…” asserted Calin Georgescu, who last year won first place in the first round of the presidential election, which was canceled by the court.
When asked if he believed in the division of Ukraine, the politician answered in the affirmative.
“One hundred percent, it will happen. Well, they have no other way! The road to something like this is inevitable. Ukraine is a fictional state. It is the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic!” said Georgescu.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has responded to the statements of far-right pro-Russian Romanian politician Calin Georgescu and emphasized that this is a manifestation of extreme disrespect for Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi emphasized that Georgescu’s statements questioning Ukraine’s territorial integrity are a manifestation of extreme disrespect for the country and the Ukrainian people.
Kyiv considers such statements categorically unacceptable. The ministry condemned “revisionist statements or actions that encroach on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, contradict international norms, the UN Charter, and basic democratic values.”
“In the context of such statements, Kelin Georgescu’s attempts to position himself as an “independent politician” look absurd: the theses he voiced are completely identical to those of Russian propaganda, which indicates complete dependence on his masters in Moscow,” Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry emphasized.
The spokesman emphasized that despite these statements, Ukraine is convinced that it is in the interests of Romania and the Romanian people to achieve a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace in Ukraine and to develop the two states in peace, security, and prosperity.
“We remind you that such a development is not part of the plans of the Kremlin and its puppets,” the Foreign Ministry said.
At the same time, Tykhyi added that Ukraine appreciates that Romania and the Romanian people have been firmly supporting Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war.
Earlier, Georgescu stated that if he wins the election, he will halt Ukrainian grain exports through Romania and further military aid to Ukraine.
