Russia’s threats against Poland and the Baltics dismissed by Duda as disinformation

On April 16, Andrzej Duda, the president of Poland, criticized Russia for its “bloodthirsty imperialism” and rejected threats against Poland and the Baltic nations.

“Russia, which is behaving aggressively toward NATO and implementing its brutal and bloodthirsty imperialism, has been attacking Ukraine for three years. Everything NATO does is a response to Russian aggression… NATO has never attacked anyone and does not attack; it is an alliance that exclusively supports security,” Duda stated.

On April 15, Sergey Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), warned Poland and the Baltic states, saying they would be the “first to suffer” in a confrontation between the Russian Federation and NATO.

Naryshkin’s warnings, according to Duda, were “classic Russian misleading disinformation.”

Russia’s aggressive actions and provocative remarks on the border between Russia, Belarus, Poland, and the Baltic nations have escalated tensions, which Duda denounced.

“This is said by Russia, which is redeploying its nuclear weapons to Belarus, brazenly bringing them closer to the borders of NATO and the European Union,” Duda stated.

In order to prevent Russian aggression, Duda urged Western countries to keep bolstering their defenses.

“Strengthening Euro-Atlantic ties, modernizing our armies so that the deterrence potential is real in our countries — this is the only effective policy that should continue to be implemented calmly and consistently,” Duda stated.

In light of Russia’s threats, Duda emphasized the value of NATO.

“Our presence in NATO and our joint readiness for mutual defense based on Article 5 are of fundamental importance,” Duda stated.

Despite Western assistance for the suffering country, Russia frequently threatens to intensify its war against Ukraine.

“They should understand, but do not yet understand, that in the event of aggression by the North Atlantic Alliance (against Russia and Belarus), damage will be done, of course, to the entire NATO bloc, but to a greater extent, the first to suffer will be the bearers of such ideas among the political circles of Poland and the Baltic countries,” Naryshkin said on April 15.

Meanwhile Russia continues its war of aggression against Ukraine, and the EU and NATO allies provided military assitance to Kyiv to help the country defend its territory from Russian assaults.
