The UK Foreign Office has rejected allegations by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico that he allegedly interfered in Slovakia’s 2023 parliamentary elections, the British Embassy in Slovakia said in a statement.
The British Foreign Office has dismissed Fico’s claims that he was trying to influence the outcome of Slovakia’s parliamentary elections as “completely false.”
“This activity was aimed at encouraging young people to participate in the democratic processes in their countries by taking part in the elections, regardless of their political affiliation or support,” it said.
On Tuesday, the Slovak prime minister claimed that the British authorities had allegedly helped influence the 2023 elections.
His comments came after media reports that the British Foreign Office had signed a £10 million contract with a London-based media agency to help influencers three years ago.
The Slovak Foreign Ministry also announced that it was summoning the British ambassador for explanations and reserved the right to take further action depending on the outcome of the meeting.
Earlier it was reported that at the beginning of the year, amid large-scale anti-government protests, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced an operation to destabilize the country and allegedly prepare a coup.
At the same time, Fico claimed that the Czech Republic was interfering in Slovakia’s internal affairs.
