Trump threatens Russia with wide-ranging sanctions and tariffs

US President Donald Trump has said he is considering imposing wide-ranging sanctions and tariffs on Russia over its ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The American president wrote about this on March 7 on the social network Truth Social.

Trump made the statement amid attempts to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table and unprecedented pressure on official Kyiv recently.

“Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely “pounding” Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED. To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!” Donald Trump wrote.

On March 4, it was confirmed that Trump had decided to suspend all military aid to Ukraine, including the aid that was already on its way.

On March 5, it was reported that US intelligence sharing with Ukraine, including that related to Russian missile launches, had also stopped.

The suspension of US military aid to Ukraine may last until Donald Trump decides that Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, supports peace talks with Russia.
