Trump threatens the EU with tariffs again because “they treat us terribly”

US President Donald Trump has said that he has not abandoned his intention to impose tariffs on EU goods. The Financial Times quoted Trump’s statement.

Donald Trump noted that European countries are “treating us terribly” and do not buy American goods.

“Am I going to impose tariffs on the European Union?…Absolutely. They don’t take our cars, they don’t take our agricultural products, in fact, they don’t take almost anything,” the American president said.

He added that the measures against the European Union “will be very significant.”

The US president admitted that the new duties, which he is going to impose on China and Canada in addition to the EU, could cause some “disruptions” in the market, but added that they would help the country reduce its trade deficit.

“The tariffs will make us very rich and very strong,” Trump said.

According to reports, Trump pledged to impose tariffs on the European Union as soon as he took office.

Back in the fall, the European Union prepared a list of American goods that could be subject to duties in response to Trump’s threat to impose tariffs.

On January 14, Trump announced that he would create a Foreign Revenue Service to collect revenue from the large-scale tariffs he promised to impose.
