Some of Ukraine’s NATO allies are failing to fulfill their promises to speed up the delivery of air defense systems and other military equipment, sources told Bloomberg.
Some NATO members have not yet fulfilled the commitments they confirmed at the Alliance’s summit in Washington in July, including the delivery of at least five additional long-range air defense systems, according to Bloomberg.
They believe that the weapons deliveries promised by the Allies may not take place until fall, when Ukraine expects Russian attacks on critical infrastructure to resume.
One of the officials told Bloomberg that some of Ukraine’s allies are failing to provide military equipment to Ukraine’s reserve forces in a timely manner, which negatively affects Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
The allies promised Ukraine a total of seven long-range air defense systems at the NATO summit, including those that were already in delivery at the time.
The United States, Germany, and Romania each promised to send one Patriot air defense system, and another will be assembled by a coalition of countries led by the Netherlands from spare parts. Italy also promised to send a SAMP-T air defense missile system.
At the time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that the announced air defense systems would arrive in Ukraine as soon as possible.
Recently, Deputy German government spokesperson Wolfgang Büchner said that Germany plans to supply Ukraine with four more IRIS-T air defense systems by the end of the year.
Additionally, he stated that Ukraine will receive 10 Gepard anti-aircraft guns, 16 self-propelled howitzers, 10 Leopard battle tanks, combat drones, and several thousand rounds of ammunition for artillery and tanks.
