UN Security Council discussed “dirty bomb” in closed session

Russia continues to spread fake news. Russia, whose troops invaded Ukraine, country claimed that Ukraine is allegedly preparing to use a “dirty bomb”. This dangerous fake has been already debunked, and we show how here below.

Russia reported a “dirty bomb” threat in Ukraine to the UN Security Council. However, Western and Ukrainian officials denied Moscow’s assertion and called it a false pretext for escalation of the war.

UN Security Council discusses “dirty bomb”

At a closed meeting, Russia’s deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, said that evidence of a “dirty bomb” had been passed to Western colleagues.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia’s accusations indicate that Moscow plans to use tactical nuclear weapons and will try to blame Kyiv.

And US President Joe Biden stressed that Russia “will make an incredibly serious mistake” if it uses tactical nuclear weapons.

In addition, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that Russia’s accusations that Ukraine is preparing to use a “dirty bomb” are part of a new stage of the campaign to disinform the civilized world. 

“They are trying to block the provision of any military and financial aid to Ukraine”, – Reznikov said. He added that Russia also seeks to create another opportunity to use a nuclear threat.

Fakes about “dirty bomb”

Russia is spreading fakes that Ukraine is allegedly preparing for a “provocation” related to the detonation of the so-called “dirty bomb”.

The Kremlin propagandists claim that Kyiv’s goal is to accuse the Kremlin of using weapons of mass destruction and launch a powerful anti-Russian campaign aimed at undermining confidence in Moscow.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu decided to call defense ministers of other countries, “warning” that Ukraine is allegedly ready to use a “dirty bomb”.

In addition, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had “put forces and means on alert in case Ukraine detonates a “dirty bomb”.”

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that if Russia calls and says that Ukraine is allegedly preparing something, it means one thing: Russia has already prepared it all.

On the other side, the United States warned Russia that if it prepares provocations using nuclear weapons, it will receive a response.

Russia used fake photos in its statements about the “dirty bomb”

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs published photos that were supposed to serve as evidence, but journalists identified a fake and nonsense. They stressed that some of the images used are fake or taken out of context.

Sky News journalists analyzed the photo used by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to present the “dirty bomb”. One of the photos has been used on the Internet at least since 2016. In fact, it was used in Mexico to illustrate a news about stolen truck with radioactive materials.

In a recent study, the Institute of the Study of War, analysed numerous phone contacts Russian Defense Minister Shoigu had with his western counterparts and the absurd allegations that Ukraine is planning a false-flag “dirty bomb” strike against Russia in order to intimidate NATO and force Ukraine into making concessions.
