US exposes Russians recruiting Americans for Russian security services

The US accuses three Russians and four Americans of allegedly working for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Russian government in particular. A statement to this effect was published by the US Department of Justice.

According to the agency, the Russians allegedly recruited Americans into the FSB “to spread propaganda and sowing discord”. In addition, the defendants allegedly secretly funded and directed candidates for local posts in the states, the DOJ said.

Charges were brought against Alexander Ionov, a Moscow resident and founder of the so-called Anti-Globalization Movement of Russia, and FSB officers Alexei Sukhodolov and Yegor Popov, who allegedly financed the movement.

Also charged were four US citizens who were probably recruited to work in Russia.

FBI spokesman Kurt Ronnow stressed that this revelation “paints a horrific picture of the actions of the Russian government and what the FSB will do to interfere in US elections, sow discord in the country and, ultimately, recruit its citizens for its purposes.”

On March 15, 2023, a spy network that worked for Russia and was preparing to sabotage the country was discovered and neutralized in Poland.
On 13 April, Norway declared 15 staff members of the Russian embassy persona non grata.
