Viktor Orban trolled by US ambassador to Hungary

Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary, only recently opened a Twitter account. His limited choice of accounts to follow provoked hilarious comments, and the new US ambassador to Budapest engaged in some excellent trolling.

“After my first day on Twitter, there’s one question on my mind,” Orban had tweeted. Where is the real Donald Trump, my dear friend?”, He posted a gif of Vincent Vega, played by John Travolta in the movie Pulp Fiction, looking around perplexed.

David Pressman, the recently appointed US ambassador to Hungary, provided one of the first comments. “While you search for your friend, perhaps you should follow the President of the United States, @POTUS”, Pressman said. “But no pressure, as the Hungarian media may say: #nyomasgyakorlo”.

After a columnist for the pro-government daily Magyar Nemzet, last week criticized Pressman for encouraging the government to accept the accession of Sweden and Finland to Nato, the US diplomat responded with the hashtag “nyomasgyakorlo” (a person who puts pressure on someone).

Orban’s list of followed people includes many of his peers, leaders critical to the EU and the West, like Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Geert Wilders, the Dutch far-right politician, Brazilian President Jair M. Bolsonaro, French radical rightwing leader Marine LePen, and Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic and right-wing politicians of the new Italian government, Giorgia Meloni and Matteo Salvini.

He had more than 65,400 followers as of Thursday, and he followed 44 users.

According to his spokeswoman, Orban started his Twitter account to inform the global public and sharing his opinions on the future.
