What the new EU sanctions package against Russia will include?

The European Union has begun discussions on the 14th package of sanctions against Russia for its aggressive war against Ukraine.

A European official shared some details of the next sanctions package in a commentary for the DPA news agency. According to him, the new package will include measures against individuals and organizations that help circumvent existing EU sanctions against Russia.

The EU diplomat said that the restrictions should apply to oil tankers, or the “shadow fleet,” that transport Russian oil despite sanctions that prohibit it. The assets of new individuals and organizations will also be frozen.

Earlier, Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis confirmed that the EU has started working on the next, fourteenth package of sanctions against Russia over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

On February 23, the EU Council adopted the thirteenth package of restrictive measures against Russia and those responsible for continuing the war against Ukraine, as well as those who significantly support Russia’s war efforts.

In early April, the United States Department of Commerce imposed export restrictions on three companies from Russia, six from China, and two from the United Arab Emirates. The Department’s website published the list of the newly sanctioned companies.

The companies have been penalized, among other reasons, for their involvement in the purchase of Shahed war drone components, used by Russia in the war against Ukraine and by the Iranian-backed Yemeni Houthis in attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
