White House: Russia responsible for destruction of Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant

The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant would not have been possible if the Russian army had not invaded Ukraine, and therefore Russia is responsible for what happened.

The White House spokeswoman said that the United States continues to assess the causes of the destruction of the hydroelectric power plant.

However, according to her, this would not have happened if Russia had not attacked Ukraine, and therefore the responsibility for the disaster lies with Russia, which controlled the plant.

“We continue to assess what happened. We are talking to Ukrainians. The destruction and devastation we see is heartbreaking. We will do everything we can to help the people of Ukraine. Russia controlled this dam. And it is responsible for the destruction caused by this war.”

Kakhovka dam explosion

On the night of 6 June 2023, the Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, destroying the engine room and the dam, and the station cannot be restored. The shallowing of the Kakhovka reservoir threatens the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

The explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station caused an environmental disaster. Water from the reservoir began to flood towns and villages, and evacuations commenced. As a result of the Kakhovka HPP dam blowing up, there were problems with the water supply in Kryvyi Rih, Marhanets and Nikopol.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the disaster at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station created by the Russians would not stop Ukraine from de-occupying its territory and would not increase the chances of the Russian invaders staying on the captured Ukrainian land.
