The leading Russian propagandists, Putin’s regime supporters, including Margarita Simonyan, Sergei Mardan and Zakhar Prilepin, are cynically ironising the bloody war in Israel. Russian military correspondents and z-bloggers do not hide their gloating over the massive attack by Hamas militants on Israeli civilians.
Among the cynically ironic posts on social networks are statements by Komsomolskaya Pravda propagandist and host of the Solovyov.Live program Sergei Mardan. He sees the benefit for Russia from the Hamas attack on Israel as the fact that “the West will now switch from helping Ukraine to resolving the crisis in the Middle East”.
Russian international state media RT chief, a leading Kremlin propagandist Margarita Simonyan, condemned Israel, which was attacked by Hamas militants, and spoke out about those who left Russia in protest against Putin’s war.
“A country that does not fight with its neighbours is again at war with its neighbours. We are waiting for the exodus of Russian pacifists. However, no, we are not waiting for them,” Simonyan wrote in her Telegram channel.
As more violent footage from Israel shows how Hamas militants have taken over several settlements and are killing civilians, Russians are openly cheering these terrible events on social networks. Several media analysed the Russian reaction to the Hamas attacks (Cursor, TSN).

Journalist Denis Kazansky showed screenshots of statements made by Russian war correspondents and famous bloggers.
“There is joy and complete delight in Russian Z-channels. Russian chauvinists are happy … Classic,” he wrote.
The scandalous Russian writer and militant Zakhar Prilepin mocked Russian singer Maxim Galkin, who moved from Russia to Israel after Russia attacked Ukraine and who condemned Putin’s war against Ukrainians.
Russian military correspondent Dmitry Steshin, another Putin’s propagandist, wrote that he does not pity or sympathise with Israeli civilians fleeing the militants. Steshin wrote he did not feel a single drop of pity and sympathy for the shot women and children.
Russian TV host Sergei Mardan wrote that there is “a benefit for Russia” in the ongoing massacre, which “it is impossible not to be happy about.”
A popular Russian Telegram channel, “Fighterbomber”, wrote: “Does Russia benefit from the war between Jews and Arabs? Yes. For all the love Israel’s citizens have for Russia, it has in no way prevented Israel from supplying weapons [to Ukraine]. <…> But, of course, words of concern should be voiced and a cease-fire called for. Already called for it. OK. Does Ukraine benefit from this war? Of course not. Ukraine does not benefit from any distraction from the world community, especially <…> the U.S. from Ukraine”.
There are also comments showing that Russian chauvinists are happy that Israel is home to so-called “traitors from the homeland” such as Makarevich, Pugacheva and Bunin (prominent Russians who dared to speak against Putin’s war).
Russian Tsargrad ultraconservative media published an interview with a political columnist, Andrei Perla, who commented on the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, noting that “Israel has done everything to be an object of hatred for all the surrounding Arab states and Arabs around the world”.
Perla also rejoiced that because of the war in Israel, Ukraine will have less support, “The more weapons Israel needs to defend itself against Hamas and Islamic Jihad, the less likely it is that Israeli weapons will go through intermediaries to Ukraine to shoot at the Russians and ensure Kyiv’s security”, he said.
“When we in Russia say that we are fighting a war not with Ukraine, but with the world domination of the Anglo-Saxons, we are often misunderstood. But it is hard to argue with the fact that the “hegemon” is losing influence on a global scale. Time after time, it turns out that the US can’t get what it wants. Israel is the citadel of the US and the West in the Middle East. It is only natural that the Arab world in the current situation decided to try – maybe this bastion is no longer so strong and can fall,” the Russian political analyst said.
Meanwhile, official Moscow does not wait for a prompt resolution of the conflict in the Middle East. “The situation with the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is interest-free. The hot phase is unlikely to end in the coming days”, the Russian Ambassador to Israel, Anatoly Viktorov, said on the air of “Solovyov.Live”.
“Unfortunately, there is an unprecedented escalation in the last decades; it gives bad hopes to count on any solution in the coming days because the escalation is going unprecedented,” “Kommersant” quoted the ambassador as saying.
Russian regime supporters are happy to see people getting killed in other countries if it’s beneficial to their goals and goes to their benefit, and their current target is to subjugate Ukraine, which Russian commentators mention in their posts.
On the morning of October 7, terrible events began in Israel: Hamas militants, firing thousands of rockets, broke into Israeli territory. The armed terrorists launched a chaotic barrage of machine gun fire.
According to Israeli media reports, Palestinian terrorists targeted Israeli civilians. Moreover, Hamas militants mocked the bodies of dead people.
