Chisinau confirms that it received Russia’s plans to take control of Moldova

The Moldovan Information and Security Service has confirmed that the Moldovan side received information from Ukraine about Russia’s intentions to conduct a campaign to destabilize the situation in the country. NewsMaker reported this.

“The Information and Security Service confirms that both based on information provided by our Ukrainian partners and as a result of the operational work of the service, it has detected subversive activities aimed at undermining the state of Moldova, destabilizing and disrupting public order,” the Moldovan agency said.

They added that they could not provide details due to the threat of disruption of operational activities.

The administration of Moldovan President Maia Sandu later said that she was constantly exchanging views with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the situation in the region.

“Our competent authorities are working to ensure the security of the country and use all the information support of our partners to anticipate and prevent any attempts to undermine our state,” Sandu’s administration added.

As a reminder, at the EU summit in Brussels, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian intelligence had intercepted the Kremlin’s plans to take control of Moldova, after which the Ukrainian leader immediately passed all the information to his counterpart, President Maia Sandu.

“We don’t know if Moscow has given the order to act on this plan against Moldova. But we saw what they were going to do. We recognized it as exactly what they have tried to do against Ukraine and other states, particularly in Europe. Nothing new,” Zelenskyy said.

Russia has repeatedly made harsh and rude attacks on Moldova and the Moldovan leadership, particularly since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Recently, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moldova is being turned into a “second Ukraine,” which was sharply commented on by the country’s foreign ministry. Usually, when Russia is planning an assault, it accuses the opponent of this in advance.
