Finland to approve 18th military aid package for Ukraine

Finland will soon approve a new, 18th aid package for Ukraine. The Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated this at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on 23 August.

Orpo reminded that Finland had provided 17 aid packages to Ukraine during the war. According to him, the 18th aid package will arrive very soon. The government should approve it at the end of the week.

Mr Orpo said this package is the same size as the previous ones. He noted that Finland is one of the largest donors to Ukraine, given the size of the country.

“There are things that are really needed: heavy weapons and ammunition,” Orpo commented on the scope of the aid package.

Zelenskyy thanked Finland for the assistance and said a new aid package would be essential.

Orpo also compared Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine to Finland’s winter war against Soviet troops.

“Finland fought, just like Ukraine is fighting now,” the Finnish prime minister said.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo arrived on his first visit to Ukraine.
