On November 30, the German parliament made a fateful decision. Finally, the Holodomor was recognized as genocide at the official level in Berlin, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The document adopted by the Bundestag clearly states that the famine occurred throughout Ukraine, which must be recognized now.
“The entire population of Ukraine suffered from famine and repressions, not only its grain-producing regions. From today’s point of view, the historical and political classification as genocide is obvious—the German Bundestag shares this classification”, – the document states.
This resolution was prepared jointly by deputies from different parliament factions. In particular, these are officials from the Social Democratic Party, the Green Party, the Free Democratic Party, and even the opposition Christian Democratic Union.

Zelenskyy thanked the German parliamentarians and stated that the truth, in any case, wins over lies. In addition, Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko also reacted to the adoption of this resolution.
“Recognition of the Holodomor as genocide is the coming of historical justice and the testimony of the consequences of crimes. Today it is essential in the context of a new genocidal war in Europe”, – he wrote.
The head of the department also noted that the joint efforts of all Ukrainians in this direction – informing the world about the tragedy of the Ukrainian people helped the truth prevail. He stressed that he had many conversations with German ministers and deputies on this issue and thanked the Germans after adopting the fateful document.
On the last Saturday of November every year, the memory of people who died during the Holodomor of 1932-33 is commemorated.
