The Netherlands is the first EU nation to completely stop buying the Russian gas.
In 2023, the Netherlands has stopped signing new deals to buy LNG from Russia and it’s terminating existing deals, – Energy Minister Rob Jetten told Bloomberg.
We must do everything to ensure that there are no Russian fossil energy resources left in our system, and we have already successfully done this with coal, pipeline gas and oil,” the minister said.
The country has 2 LNG terminals with a capacity of 24 billion cubic meters. Previously, the Gate terminal was processing one Russian ship a month, while the new Emshaven terminal has not received a single ship from Russia. In 2022, 15% of LNG imports came from Russia and the 4th largest buyer of Russian LNG in Europe, after Spain, Belgium and France.
