Over 50 nations to join Ukraine’s Peace Formula summit in Malta

Over 50 countries are expected to join the Ukraine’s Peace Formula summit in Malta.

This is an increase from the 40 countries who attended Ukraine’s inaugural Peace Formula summit in Jeddah, where China also participated. Turkey’s participation has now been confirmed.

According to an announcement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his nightly address on October 21, a third international summit on implementing Ukraine’s peace formula would occur on October 28-29 in Malta.

According to Zelenskyy, “important countries of the world” would be represented at the summit, with over 50 delegates expected. He went on to say that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had confirmed the country’s participation.

Security advisers and diplomats will attend the summit to discuss the Ukraine peace formula first suggested by Zelenskyy in November 2022. To end Russian war in Ukraine, the plan covers ten essential points, which include:

• Nuclear and radiological safety
• Food security
• Energy security
• Release of all prisoners of war and deportees
• Restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity
• Withdrawal of Russian troops and cessation of hostilities
• Accountability and justice
• Preventing ecocide
• Preventing escalation of the conflict
• Confirmation of the war’s end.

In August, over 40 countries attended the first conference on the peace formula in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The involvement of China in the meeting was praised as a “breakthrough.”

Ukraine hopes to pressure Russia to terminate the invasion, which began in February 2022, by bringing together powerful nations. However, Russia has so far rejected the plan.

The Ukrainian President’s Office insists that only Ukrainian solutions for Ukraine’s peace should be accepted. Foreign peace initiatives, such as a “Brazilian plan,” a “Chinese plan,” an “African plan,” or a “Vatican plan,” it claims, are unsuitable for settling the conflict. The administration maintains that only a Ukrainian approach can address the situation’s intricacies and nuances.

The fourth summit of the Council of Europe has endorsed Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula, displaying significant political support for the initiative.

Zelenskyy’s peace formula was considered at a summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on the 5th and 6th of August, which gathered 40 nations and agreed on important, but not all, principles of the peace plan.
