Russia bombarded energy facilities of Kyiv region causing blackout

On the night of October 27, the Russian invading troops attacked the energy infrastructure in the Kyiv region with kamikaze drones.

Russian strikes in the civilian infrastructure caused blackouts and will lead to stricter electricity restrictions in the capital and central regions of Ukraine, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko and Head of Kyiv Regional State Administration Oleksiy Kuleba stated.

“Tonight Russian terrorists attacked our energy infrastructure again. Equipment in the central regions was damaged”, Kyrylo Tymoshenko said.

To prevent a complete blackout of the central regions in Ukraine, power engineers are forced to introduce stricter restrictions. The volume of necessary electricity restrictions in Kyiv, Kyiv region, Chernihiv, Cherkasy and Zhytomyr regions will be regulated depending on the current situation in the power system, according to the official.

Tymoshenko said that Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Office is working together with representatives of regional military administrations, the city of Kyiv, Ukrenergo, the Ministry of Energy and DTEK to resolve the issue.

The State Emergency Service reported that the attacks on infrastructure facilities in the Kyiv region were carried out by Shahed drones. 8 units of equipment and 48 rescuers were engaged to eliminate the fire. There were no casualties and injuries.

The head of Kyiv regional military administration Oleksiy Kuleba informed that during the night the enemy seriously damaged the energy infrastructure in the region and disabled a number of critical facilities.

According to Kuleba, there may be no electricity supply for an indefinite period, although experts are working to restore the system.

The press service of the electricity supplier from the DTEK Yasno group said that “the destruction is serious”, the electricity deficit in the capital could already be 30% and “almost half of Kyiv could be left without electricity”.

On the night of October 27, there were several drone and missile attacks in the Kyiv region, the bombardments caused a fire. In addition, Ukrainian air defense forces eliminated some Russian attacks.
