Russia cannot block Ukraine’s membership in NATO – Stoltenberg

According to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, all NATO countries support Ukraine joining the organization. However, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that NATO cannot admit new members while engaged in a conflict.

Allies agree that Ukraine should join NATO, according to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who also highlighted that Russian actions and concerns cannot control this decision.

Ahead of a gathering of NATO foreign ministers in Oslo, Norway, he remarked, “Moscow should not have a veto over NATO growth.”

Additionally, Stoltenberg announced that he will soon visit Turkey to talk with Turkish officials about Sweden’s application to join NATO, but he added that Sweden already benefited much from the alliance’s protection.

He stated that it was “completely inconceivable” that Sweden would face a threat or attack without NATO responding.

Violence against the KFOR peacekeepers in Kosovo, deployed by the alliance, was deemed “totally unacceptable” by Stoltenberg.

“Around 700 additional troops will be sent for the first time, and they are en route. However, this does not imply that we are giving up on a political solution, he added.

Since ethnic Albanian mayors were elected in the region’s Serb-majority territory following elections that were boycotted by the Serbs in April, unrest in the north of Kosovo has gotten worse, prompting criticism of Pristina from the United States and its allies.

During a visit to Moldova on Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared that Ukraine was prepared to join NATO and that Kyiv was just waiting for the organization to admit his nation.
