Russian invaders abducted Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant officials

Russian invaders abducted Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant employees again – on October 17, they detained two officials of the plant and took them away in an unknown direction. This was reported by the Energoatom press service, Ukraine’s national nuclear operator.

The abducted Ukrainian nuclear plant officials are Oleh Kostiukov, Head of the Information Technology Service of Zaporizhzhya NPP, and Oleh Osheka, Assistant Director General of the plant.

Currently, nothing is known about their whereabouts and condition, Energoatom added.

The company appealed to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi and the international community to use all possible measures to release ZNPP employees from captivity and facilitate their return to duty.

On Monday, 10 October, Russian troops kidnapped Valerii Martyniuk, Deputy Director General of Zaporizhzhia NPP, and are holding him in an unknown place, probably using torture and intimidation.

Director General of Zaporizhzhya NPP Igor Murashov, who was kidnapped by Russians earlier, will no longer work at Zaporizhzhya NPP, the IAEA said.

Russians abducted Igor Murashov on October 1. It was reported that his whereabouts were unknown. On October 3, he was released.

Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant lost connection to its last power line

Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant lost again the connection to its last remaining operating 750 kilovolt power line on October 17, but it is continuing to receive electricity from the grid through a back-up system, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency reported.

Ukraine’s national nuclear operator Energoatom stated that this was caused by Russian shelling of a sub-station, which is part of the grid’s electrical transmission system, located far from the nuclear plant itself.
