Traveling to Mars and Hitler the Communist: what Musk and Weidel talked about

“People will soon be traveling to Mars, Hitler was a communist, and Germany has a leftist education system.” Elon Musk, X owner and Trump’s team member, and Alice Weidel, the co-chairman of the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD), discussed these topics during an hour-and-a-half conversation on the X platform.

The American billionaire and the German politician discussed not only history and futurology but also Germany’s energy sector, Merkel’s policies, and Russia’s war against Ukraine.

During the conversation, the owner of the X social network, American billionaire Elon Musk, and the leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany, Alice Weidel, criticized the “leftism” in German education and bureaucracy. They also argued that Hitler was a communist, not a Nazi.

Weidel asserted at the start of the conversation that the past 20-25 years of “mismanaged” Germany have “broken” the country’s “spine.” She especially criticized the “green” policies of recent governments and the closure of nuclear power plants in the wake of the rejection of cheap Russian gas.

The AfD leader asked the American billionaire if he understood the burdensome rules of doing business in Germany, and Musk said that he had to submit a 25,000-page application.

Trump’s favorite actively picked up on this topic, claiming that the situation in the United States is the same, and these are the consequences of the far-left program that has “engulfed Western civilization.”

Musk asserted that illegal migration is contributing to an increase in crime, and “philanthropist George Soros is contributing to the ineffectiveness of laws in the United States.” The owner of X and Tesla also said that people are tired of such policies and want change, as demonstrated by the US election results. Following this assertion, Musk called on German voters to vote for the AfD.

The AfD leader called Russia-Ukraine wara serious threat to our national security and the security of Europe as a whole.” She expressed a hope that US President-elect Donald Trump would put an end to the “senseless daily deaths of young people.” In addition, Weidel said that European leaders cannot do this because they have abandoned “a good army, good negotiating capabilities,” put the responsibility on the United States, and are “simply exacerbating this conflict.”

Musk, on the other hand, confidently stated, “President Trump will resolve this conflict quickly enough.” “The situation is now at a standstill. (…) And the longer this conflict continues, the weaker Ukraine becomes against Russia. Ukraine is much smaller than Russia and cannot afford such losses,” the billionaire claimed. But Musk failed to explain how Trump can resolve this conflict.

Musk and Weidel also discussed the “leftist” education system in Germany.

“There is a crazy, insane, socialist, leftist agenda in our educational system. Young people don’t learn anything at school or university. They just study gender studies,” Weidel said.

Musk responded: “It looks like the virus of leftism has infected Germany very badly.”

They also talked about Mars. Musk does not believe in aliens, so he considers humanity to be the only civilization in the universe. In his opinion, it hasn’t existed for long, compared to the planet—only five thousand years.

“However, the Earth’s extinction does not necessarily mean that this civilization will end. For instance, it could be caused by a nuclear war or a massive meteorite. Musk believes that an alternative planet is necessary to prolong the existence of humanity. And it can be Mars,” he said.

Musk holds the belief that it is imperative to establish a Martian civilization expeditiously, given the potential closure of this opportunity window. The creation of a self-sufficient city on Mars, requiring a million people and tons of materials, would enable future Martians to fly to Earth and rescue its inhabitants.

Musk claims that we could organize an expedition to Mars within two years. And once a civilization appears on the planet, humanity will be able to expand its presence even further, to the rest of the solar system—to large asteroids, satellites, and other planets.

Alice Weidel is the co-chair of Alternative for Germany and its candidate for chancellor in the February 23rd Bundestag snap elections.

Elon Musk has previously publicly supported the AfD and said that only it “can save Germany.”

The European Commission said it would analyze the online conversation between the billionaire and the German politician for compliance with EU law.
