Ukrainian forces are increasingly penetrating deep into Russian territory and launching sabotage attacks against infrastructure that the Russian troops are using. In the Russian city of Ulyanovsk on December 14, a powerful explosion destroyed a railroad track.
This incident has complicated the logistics of the Russian troops. Ukraine’s military intelligence reported this on its Facebook page and posted a video.
The explosion in Ulyanovsk occurred on the line near the Sviyaga River, a few kilometers from the local locomotive depot and the Ulyanovsk Motor Plant.
Although this sabotage will not stop the use of the railroad line, it will complicate the work of the local railroad depot. The city of Ulyanovsk is home to several important enterprises of the Russian defense industry.
In particular, the Ulyanovsk Cartridge Plant, which produces ammunition for small arms, and the Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant, which produces the Buk-M3 air defense system.
During the first two weeks of December, a series of sabotage attacks on the railroad took place in Russia: a railroad track was blown up and 5 locomotives were burned.
In particular, on December 13, an arson attack occurred in the city of Krasnodar, which disabled three railroad locomotives. According to the Ukrainian agency, they were used by the Russian army to provide its logistics.
And on December 5, a fire broke out at the Bryansk railway depot, burning down two mainline diesel locomotives that met the logistical needs of the Russian occupation army.
“The process of weakening the logistics facilities used by Russia to wage genocidal war against Ukraine continues,” the Ukrainian intelligence service said in a statement.
Sabotage on the Russian railroad has been going on since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops. The first such case became known in April 2022.
Then a railway bridge in the Shebekinsky urban district of the Belgorod region was blown up. Since then, sabotage of various scales has occurred regularly.
The operations of the Ukrainian defense forces on the territory of the Russian Federation also show the weakness of the Russian security forces and their inability to control their territory.
