The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has announced further assistance to Ukraine to help rebuild the country once the war with Russia is over.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this during her year-end speech at the European Parliament.
“This year, we have provided €12 billion in aid to Ukraine to keep schools and hospitals functioning. We will also boost arms production to meet Ukraine’s urgent needs. We are also looking to the future, so we have proposed an additional €50 billion over the next four years for investment and reform. This will help Ukraine to rebuild its future and become a beautiful, prosperous Ukraine,” the European Commission President said.
Ursula von der Leyen added that Ukraine’s future lies in the European Union.
“We can no longer allow a country that is European in spirit to be left behind. The EU has to expand,” she said.
