Zelenskyy and Michel discussed Ukrainian grain exports to the EU

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while in Japan to participate in the Group of Seven summit, met with President of the European Council Charles Michel.

According to a statement from the President’s Office, Zelenskyy and Michel discussed the implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations for the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

“During the meeting, special attention was paid to the issue of export restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural products by several EU countries and the inadmissibility of their extension after June 5,” the Office of the President of Ukraine declared.

Other topics of discussion included the implementation of the Ukrainian “peace formula” to stop the Russia-Ukraine war and the consolidation of global support for it, as well as the coordination of positions on the eve of the Group of Seven summit.

Commenting on the meeting with Zelenskyy, the President of the European Council himself wrote on Twitter: “Ukraine is unbreakable. So is our support and friendship. Glory to Ukraine.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Japan on Saturday to participate in events at the Group of Seven summit. He has already held talks with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

On the same day, the G7 leaders agreed on a joint communiqué following the summit in Japan, the day before it ended, in which they reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine “for as long as it takes to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace.”
