“The Drone Coalition” has allocated €20 million from a joint fund to purchase tactical reconnaissance drones (ISR) for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for Digitalization Kateryna Chernogorenko, Ukrainian media reported.
According to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the delivery of the equipment is expected within three months.
Chernogorenko said that these drones will allow the military to reconnoiter the area and increase the situational awareness of their units.
As previously reported, the 19th meeting of Ukraine’s allies in the Ramstein format saw the formation of the ‘drone coalition’ in February 2024. Latvia proposed the idea of forming a coalition to supply Ukraine with drones.
Together with the United Kingdom, they coordinate the initiative. It currently includes 18 countries: Latvia, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Estonia, Italy, New Zealand, Canada, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Germany, Sweden, and Ukraine.
In July 2024, the countries participating in the ‘drone coalition’ signed a Memorandum of Understanding, under which they created a joint fund worth €45 million.
From the beginning of 2025, it was expected that the members of the ‘drone coalition’ would begin massive supplies of various types of drones to Ukraine.
Combat operations during the Russia-Ukraine war have shown that modern drones play a critical role both for reconnaissance and for strikes.
