On May 20, the European Union approved a new, 17th package of sanctions against Russia.
This was reported by EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas in a post on the X network.
“The EU has approved its 17th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting nearly 200 ships of the shadow fleet. The new measures also address hybrid threats and human rights.”
Kaja Kallas added that the EU is preparing “even more sanctions against Russia.”
“The longer Russia wages war, the tougher our response will be,” Kallas summarized.
It was expected that the 18th package of sanctions against Russia might include restrictions against banks of non-EU countries that support the Russian defense industry and army.
On May 16, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that a new package of EU sanctions against Russia, being prepared to increase pressure on Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, may include sanctions against Russian financial institutions.
