The EU has announced the official extension of sectoral sanctions against Russia for another six months. This extension was announced by the chief of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas.
The top EU diplomat stated that the pressure on Russia will continue until it stops its war against Ukraine.
“We will continue to pile pressure on Moscow to end its war in Ukraine. Each sanction weakens Russia’s ability to wage war.” Kallas stated.
All 27 EU countries signed a document extending sectoral sanctions. The sanctions have been extended until January 31, 2026.
On June 26, European Union leaders reached a political agreement to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months but did not agree to approve a new package of restrictions.
On Friday, June 27, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Union effectively approved the extension of sectoral sanctions against Russia for another six months.
These are sanctions against entire sectors or industries of the Russian economy or areas of Russian business activity. The goal of the Western sanctions is to stop Russia’s war machine and halt its war of aggression against Ukraine.
