French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has called on the European Commission to protect EU member states from interference in their politics, in particular, from American billionaire Elon Musk, with “maximum firmness.” Le Figaro cited Barrot’s statement.
When asked whether Musk’s social network X (Twitter) could be banned in Europe, as it was in Brazil, where it was suspended for 40 days, Barrot replied, “It is provided for in our laws.”
“Either the European Commission applies with the utmost firmness the laws we have given ourselves to protect our public space, or it doesn’t, and then it will have to agree to give back to EU member states the ability to do so. We need to wake up,” Barrot declared on the radio France Inter.
In recent days, Elon Musk has come under fire from several European leaders after he publicly supported the German far-right party Alternative for Germany and called for the resignation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
