Berlin plans to transfer 4 IRIS-T air defense systems and Gepard anti-aircraft systems to Kyiv by the end of the year. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock made this announcement on the eve of a meeting in Brussels, according to a 24 Channel correspondent.
New Germany’s military aid to Ukraine for strengthening Ukraine’s air defense
Annalena Baerbock reminded that the Russian troops have repeatedly and deliberately attacked the heat and water supply infrastructure in Ukraine “in order to freeze people to death in winter.”
Germany plans to transfer four more IRIS-T systems to Ukraine by the end of the year and will continue to supply Gepard anti-aircraft systems, according to the German foreign minister.
“Air defense remains the most important thing we can do to protect human lives in Ukraine,” said Baerbock.
Borrell calls for strengthening Ukraine’s air defense
On the eve of an informal meeting of European foreign ministers, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell called on partners to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
Josep Borrell stated that since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has already used more than 14,000 drones and almost 10,000 missiles against Ukraine.
Russian invading forces continue to attack civilians and civilian infrastructure. The EU High Representative emphasized that just this week, Russia launched a missile attack on Ukraine, employing 300 missiles and drones.
“Russia wants to totally destroy Ukraine’s electricity system in order to plunge Ukraine into darkness and cold for the next winter. Russia has bombed numerous hospitals and medical centers. Russia wants to bomb any European country until it surrenders,” Borrell said.
In addition, Borrell emphasized the need to lift any prohibitions on the use of transferred military weapons on Russian territory in accordance with international law.
