On the night of May 28, Russian invaders attacked Ukraine with kamikaze drones. Most of the Iranian-made “Shakhed” drones were fired at Kyiv.

Russian launched 54 kamikaze drones on Ukraine

Ukraine claimed to have thwarted the largest overnight drone attack on Kyiv since Russia launched a full-scale war. Ukraine’s Armed Forces said they had destroyed 52 of the 54 kamikaze drones launched by Moscow in the country, including “more than 40” in the sky over Kyiv.

Explosions and fire in Kyiv

Ukrainian Air Defence forces reported that they shot down 52 Shakhed drones.

At night, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that explosions occurred in the Solomyansky district. Rescue services were sent to the scene. In the Pechersk district, a fire broke out on the roof of a 9-story building due to the fall of drone debris.

Later in the Solomyansky district, where UAV debris hit a 7-story non-residential building, part of the wall was destroyed, and a fire broke out on the 3rd floor.

In the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, the roof of a three-story warehouse building caught fire due to the fall of UAV debris.

Later, Klitschko said that a fire was being localized in the Holosiivskyi district of over 700 square meters. The destruction of building structures is on a total area of 1000 square meters. Rescuers are working with the latest means and technologies. The fire was localized at 5 am.

The most massive Russian air attack on Kyiv

The Kyiv regional administration noted that this was the 14th Russian air attack on the capital since the beginning of May. Previously, it was the most massive drone attack on Kyiv since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, namely, with Shahed kamikaze drones.
