Rubio confirms to Rutte that the US is ready to withdraw from Ukraine peace talks

In a phone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States is ready to withdraw from mediation efforts to establish peace in Ukraine if a clear path to peace does not emerge in the near future.

This was reported by US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, speaking about the conversation between Rubio and Rutte.

According to the spokeswoman, Rubio informed Rutte about the peace proposal presented on Thursday to the Ukrainian delegation in Paris and Russian officials by phone.

“The Secretary of State expressed the hope of President Trump and the United States that this proposal will be accepted and lead to a lasting and durable peace in Ukraine. The Secretary of State emphasized that while our country is committed to ending the war, if a clear path to peace does not emerge soon, the United States will withdraw from mediation efforts to bring about peace,” Bruce said.

Earlier, Rubio stated that the United States is ready to abandon efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine if it sees that there is no progress in this direction “in the coming days.”

US President Donald Trump confirmed that he could abandon attempts to conclude a “peace deal” between Ukraine and Russia in the absence of progress but did not name specific conditions under which this would happen.

Trump was asked to comment on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that the United States is ready to abandon efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine if it sees that there is no progress in this direction “in the coming days.”

According to the US president, there is no specific number of days within which the US will make such a decision, “but we want to do it quickly.”

Thereafter, Trump said that he supported Rubio’s words, and the United States was “not going to tolerate” the delay in peace efforts. “But I think we have every chance to solve this problem,” the president said.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the United States has presented its proposals to European allies for a “peace agreement” between Russia and Ukraine, which, in particular, provide for the easing of sanctions against Russia in the event of a prolonged ceasefire.
