The Russian army continues to terrorize Ukraine’s civilian population. On January 2, the Russians conducted a huge missile attack on various Ukrainian regions.

Particularly, the Russians launched scores of missiles and war drones into Ukraine’s capital. The total duration of the air raid was nearly 6 hours.

The major missile attack on Kyiv and the surrounding area killed three people and injured 38 more. The attack claimed the lives of two people in Kyiv and one in the surrounding area.

Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, stated that Russia launched around fifteen Shahed barrage munitions toward Kyiv.

The Russians then launched X-101/X555X-55 cruise missiles in groups from more than 15 Tu-95MS strategic bombers. More than 10 Russian Mig-31K aircraft launched X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles against Kyiv at the same time the missiles reached it.

The air defense troops targeted all Shahed UAVs, as well as more than 60 X-101/X555X-55 missiles and a dozen X-47M2 Kinzhal missiles (the type and number will be determined by the Air Force),” according to local officials.

The major missile attack in Kyiv demolished people’s homes, damaged infrastructure, and caused injuries and fatalities, according to the authorities.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that rescuers in the Solomyansky neighborhood liberated 17 people from a house, while dozens of people were injured. Twenty-seven people were brought to hospitals. An elderly woman succumbed to her injuries in an ambulance.

Russia also launched Kinzhal missiles at Kharkiv. Russia’s bombardment has injured more than 40 people. Children are among the injured in Kharkiv.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, three fires broke out in Kharkiv as a result of a huge rocket attack on the city. A warehouse, belongings in one of the residential buildings’ basements, autos, and gas seeping from a ruptured gas main were all on fire.

“In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, and in Kharkiv, to date, 92 people have been injured. Unfortunately, four people were killed,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

According to the commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Air Force, Mykola Oleschuk, Russian troops actually replicated the December 29 strike in terms of missile kinds and the quantity of air attack on January 2.

Foreign components in Russian missiles and drones

Ukrainian researchers have been inspecting Russian missiles, drones, tanks, and other weapons and equipment since the start of the full-fledged assault. Ukrainian experts have determined that out of the approximately 3,000 items analyzed, only 14 were manufactured in Russia.

Previously, Ukraine’s National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP) added additional elements of Russian and Iranian weaponry to the world’s only open database of foreign components in weapons.

The list grew by over 150 components, including five additional pieces from the Russian Tornado-S MLRS rounds (9M544) and 137 components from the Iranian Mohajer-6 UAV. The base already includes almost 2,750 components in total.

Russia manufactured only 14 out of the nearly 3,000 components evaluated. Thus, Moscow is not able to produce deadly rockets without foreign components, which leads us to the major significance of anti-Russian sanctions implementation, eliminating loopholes for sanctions evasion, and halting dual-use goods imports to Russia.
