The Russian hacker group NoName has attacked several major Belgian websites.
According to RTBF, the Russian hackers attacked the MyGov.be website, which allows Belgian citizens to access official documents. The website of the Walloon Parliament was also down.
According to the VRT portal, which contacted the Cybersecurity Centre dealing with the case, these are DDOS attacks. These attacks target servers by bombarding them with requests, which ultimately paralyzes them.
However, these attacks do not allow hackers to steal data.
On the Telegram channel, the hacker group claims to be responding to a new €1 billion package of Belgian aid to Ukraine.
These hackers already attacked Belgian government websites for five consecutive days in October last year. They mostly attacked the websites of small municipalities.
During a meeting with the Ukrainian president in early March, Defence Minister Theo Francken proposed a one billion euro military aid package.
This effort includes €216 million for the purchase of 155mm shells under a Czech initiative, €200 million for air defense under a German initiative, and the delivery of F-16 aircraft.
As reported, a group of Chinese hackers hacked into the Belgian State Security Service (VSSE) and stole its data in 2021–2023.
